Steele Promo Art

Steele is the main antagonist of Balto. He is Nikki, Kaltag and Star's former leader and boss.

He is voiced by Jim Cummings, who also voices Sierra from The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, The Bears from Sing, Nessus from Hercules, Dennis from Tarzan, Ed from The Lion King (even though Ed doesn't speak) and Pete from Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Personality

Steele is evil, mean, angry, aggressive, arrogant, heartless, cruel and rude towards Balto because of how he got jealous and how he felt that Balto was a threat even though Balto is not a threat.

He also does not show sympathy for the sick children since he was willing to let them die instead of caring about them.

He is also a liar because he claimed that Balto and the rest of the team died even though they did not die and he also blamed Balto for the accident.

Steele was shown to like Jenna and was willing to fall in love with her even though she loves Balto instead of Steele and knows that Steele was lying to the other dogs about Balto and the rest of the team.

Appearance

Steele is a large and muscular black and white Alaskan Malamute with ice blue eyes and and a black nose.

Despite having ice blue eyes in the film, Steele was depicted as having eyes with different colours as he had 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye.

Trivia

  • Steele was originally supposed to be voiced by Brendan Fraser but he was voiced by Jim Cummings instead.
  • There was originally going to be a scene in the film where Steele dies by killing himself by hanging himself with his collar, but the scene was deleted because it would be dark and extreme for kids.
  • It is unknown what happened to Steele since he was never seen again after the first film. So, since Steele does not appear in the sequels, it can be assumed that he either starved to death or froze to death from being abandoned by the other dogs while they betray him.
  • Steele was originally going to appear in the third Balto film, Balto III: Wings of Change as he was originally going to be one of the volunteers who would help Balto to search for Duke which would show that Steele reformed. However, this did not happen as Steele did not appear in the second or third film and he remained being an antagonist.
