Gendo Ikari is a character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime franchise who appears as the main antagonist of the TV shows film series remake Rebuild of Evangelion. He is the father of series main protagonist Shinji Ikari and the leader of an organization called NERV which aims to protect humanity from giant monsters known as angels. However it is eventually revealed that the reason why the angels are attacking humanity in the first place is because he wants to use SEELE's Human Instrumentality Project to sacrifice countless people in order to give himself the power to kill and overthrow god in order to reunite with his deceased wife Yui. He is voiced by Fumihiko Tachiki in the original Japanese version and by John Swasey in the English dub.
