Captain Francis Grawl is the Big Bad and the former main antagonist of the 2009 movie Planet 51, but later he reforms to good. He is sly, friendly, sneaky, grouchy (formerly), kind, short-tempered, nice, cool, grumpy (formerly), fatherly, ruthless, cocky (formerly), and smart. He was introduced as the main antagonist, but this was a misinformation campaign made to hide the true main villain. He is the friendly and short-tempered captain of Planet 51, until the film's climax. His inspiration is The Grinch and Smek.
He was voiced by Gary Oldman.
Driven by a fear of the unknown, Francis becomes a menace to himself and his men as well as (somewhat ironically) his world as he becomes obsessed with not only capturing the "alien" but in either killing him or having his brain removed. Francis is jealous of Lem and his friends who annoy him.
However in the end of the film, Francis is redeemed when he is rescued from his self-destructing base, making him finally realise that the "alien" was not a threat and also opening his eyes to the fact that blind ignorance and fear is far more dangerous than imaginary threats. At the end of the film, he becomes the new lead scientist on Planet 51 and Lem takes over his job as the captain of Planet 51.
