The Dementors were the secondary antagonists of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, minor antagonist of Order of Phoenix, and minor antagonists of Deathly Hallows-Part 1 and Part 2. They were dark wraith-like creatures used by the Ministry of Magic to guard the wizard prison Azkaban.
