Motti: Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given your clairvoyance enough to find the Rebel's hidden fort-
Vader: I find your lack of faith disturbing.
~ Motti before being force choked by Darth Vader, the latter's quote one of the most famous movie quotes in all of cinema history

Conan Antonio "Zi" Motti was a high-ranked chief of the Galactic Empire, and serves as a major antagonist of Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope. He served as a high-ranking admiral on the Death Star and answered to Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader until it's destruction, in which he and Tarkin were victims.

History[]

Conan Motti grew up in the planet of Seswenna in the Outer Rim as part of a powerful and wealthy family. He became a naval officer of the Galactic Empire, and by 14 BBY, he was a high-ranking admiral and Chief of the Galactic Imperial Navy. After he played a major role during the Empire's conflict against a Rebel uprising in the Outer Rims, he was promoted to the second-in-command of the Joint Chiefs on the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon, second only to Grand Moff Tarkin himself. Emperor Palpatine had even considered to put Motti in Tarkin's rank. In 0BBY, the Rebel Alliance stole the plans to the Death Star, and after Darth Vader failed to retrieve them, he returned to the Death Star with the captured Leia Organa. At a meeting, he debated with General Tagge about the Death Star's potential as Tarkin and Vader arrived. Motti claimed the Death Star was the ultimate power in the universe, although Vader rebuked him by claiming it was inconsequential to the power of the Force. Motti proceeded to mock Vader about his faith in the Force and his failure to find both the stolen plans and the Rebel's hidden fort, so Vader angrily choked him with the Force until Tarkin had him stop. Wishing to impress Tarkin, Motti visited his office and told Tarkin that he believed Tarkin could become the most powerful man in the galaxy, rivalling the Emperor, but Tarkin found his words near treason and rejected him, seeing through his goal. Motti later informed Tarkin when they approached Alderaan, and saw as the Death Star destroyed the planet. After a group of rebels rescued Leia and helped her escape, the Rebel Alliance launched an attack on the Death Star, during which Luke Skywalker fired two torpedoes into the Death Star's reactor core, exploding it and destroy Motti, Tarkin and everyone else aboard.
